Abstract

Justicia wynaadensis, a medicinal plant traditionally used to manage diabetes, has garnered attention for its potential antidiabetic properties. This review consolidates current knowledge on the phytochemical composition, pharmacological activities, and mechanisms underlying the antidiabetic effects of Justicia wynaadensis leaves. Various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolics, contribute to its efficacy by modulating glucose metabolism, enhancing insulin sensitivity, and exerting antioxidant effects that mitigate diabetes-associated oxidative stress. Preclinical studies have demonstrated significant reductions in blood glucose levels, improvements in lipid profiles, and protective effects on pancreatic β-cells. The review also highlights the safety profile and therapeutic prospects of Justicia wynaadensisin diabetes management, emphasizing the need for further clinical trials to validate efficacy and dosage.
